Our Governing Body works hard to support Merton Abbey to continue to be a good school and to become an even better one. Governors represent a wide range of interests: we have parents, school staff and representatives from the local community, local government and business.
We meet twice a term all together and then in smaller committees to discuss key issues relating to the school. Our role is to support and advise the Head Teacher and senior leadership team on the best way to use all our resources to make sure that our children have the best possible opportunities for learning. We pay periodic visits to school, so that Mr. Bradley and his team can show us the children at work and we can see for ourselves how human and financial resources are used. We are delighted to have our current staff team all of whom strive to bring out the best in our children. This year, we are focusing on the progress children make as they move through school.
The last year has been exciting, because Merton Abbey has expanded to nearly double its size and we have a lovely new extension provided by Merton Council. In September 2017 we shall finally have two classes in every year group. Governors have been busy during this time ensuring that staff’s ideas have been taken on board and that the money has been well spent. We are sure that the children will continue to learn well with our wonderful new resources.
We have another challenge ahead of us with the proposal for a new secondary school on High Path. We have ongoing contact with Merton Council so that we can support Merton Abbey’s best interest.
We are looking forward to another interesting year ahead.
