Music
Music at Merton Abbey Primary
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything” – Plato
“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you” – B.B. King
At Merton Abbey, every single child deserves the chance to experience a rich musical education, both in and outside the school environment. We celebrate all children’s ability. Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Our lessons should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose and perform. The children’s skills should progress as they become older and they should be able to perform confidently with the support of their peers and staff.
The music subject leader is Mark Oglesby.
