  • Year 2 Visits Victoria & Albert Museum

    Wed 31 Jan 2018 C. Lewis

Ni hao! This half term, Year 2 are learning all about China. As part of this topic we visited The Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington. Here we got the opportunity to take part in a workshop called “Asian Voyage – A journey through China.” We ventured to the China gallery and were amazed by the beautiful art work, furniture and clothing.

As part of our workshop we learned about the different materials used to make traditional Chinese objects. We split into teams and went on a hunt for ceramic, lacquer and silk. Finally, we went on a dragon hunt and were surprised to find over 100 dragons, including a few imperial five clawed dragons. Thank you to all the teachers and parents who helped out on our trip. It was a fantastic day of learning and fun.

  • Art exhibition at South Wimbledon station

    Tue 09 Jan 2018

Merton Abbey Primary School's young artists have transformed an empty shop front and created an inspiring exhibition for passers by at busy South Wimbledon station.  The exhibition features art from children in all classes in the school - from three years old to eleven years old.  They are works of art in their own right but also reflect the children's learning across the curriculum.

The exhibition is another creative partnership between the school and the local community.  Our thanks go to Mr Oglesby and Miss Scott [Creative Directors, Merton Abbey], Councillor Katy Neep [Merton Council] and Mehmet Guzel [Simply Fresh].  They have all worked together to use the children's art to improve the local environment.

Thanks also to Emma at www.imagesart.co.uk for supporting our exhibition.
