  • Come and volunteer at Merton Abbey!

    Wed 29 Mar 2017
Would you like to develop your reading comprehension skills? Would you like to help your children to develop their reading skills? Do you have half an hour to spare each week? If so, come and join our book club! At Book Club you will be facilitating a group of children reading a book, asking questions, deepening understanding and discussing what the book is about. It is a great way to support children in developing their reading skills as well as encouraging them to think more about the content of the story and delve deeper into the book. If you are interested in joining Book Club please contact Miss Durber.
  • Holi Festival at Merton Abbey

    Fri 24 Mar 2017
Spring is definitely returning: the days are getting longer and the weather is improving.  At Merton Abbey, we have been celebrating this through the Hindu festival of Holi.  Holi marks the return of spring and the triumph of good over evil.  It is a celebration of light and colour - as you can see here in our photos.  We had lots of fun - children, parents and staff together.

  • Harris Academy Wimbledon

    Tue 07 Mar 2017

Many of you will have received a booklet about the proposed new secondary school, Harris Academy Wimbledon. The proposed site for the school is next to Merton Abbey Primary School.

Our governing body have constantly been involved in discussions with the council to ensure that, if the building opens in the proposed site, the needs of our children are met.

The Harris Federation is now undertaking a consultation including the school’s proposed admissions arrangements. As a parent of the school, and a member of the local community, you have the right to express your views about this new secondary school and how it may affect you and your family. The council, and members of the Harris Federation will be meeting with local residents at a number of different venues. These are:

Tuesday 7th March at Wimbledon Park Primary school at 6:30pm

Wednesday 8th March at Joseph Hood Primary school at 6:30pm

Thursday 9th March at Holy Trinity Primary school at 6:30pm

Or you can email: info@harrisfederation.org.uk or visit www.harriswimbledon.org.uk

The consultation period ends on Friday 31st March.

The planning application for the proposed new school is expected to be submitted mid-2017, and it will include a detailed transport assessment. You will also be able to submit any comments you have as part of the planning process.

  • World Book Day

    Fri 03 Mar 2017
On Friday we will be celebrating World Book Day! Children can come dressed as their favourite book character such as Harry Potter, The BFG, Pippi Long Stockings, Gangsta Granny. Even the teachers will be dressing up! Parents are welcome to come in to read a story to their child's class at the beginning or the end of the day. Throughout the day children will be taking part in a carousel of activities with their class. It is going to be a great day!
  • Primary Practice Graduation

    Wed 01 Mar 2017

Over the past few weeks some year 5 pupils have been taking part in the Primary Practice programme. Trainee doctors have used real life contexts to teach the pupils medical skills, such as putting on a sling, taking a pulse and how to wash their hands like a doctor

Today was the 6th and final week and the students went to St George's hospital for their graduation. Prior to graduating they continued to build on their medical skills and learnt to read blood pressure, use a stethoscope and to read lung capacity. During the graduation the children were presented with a certificate, a St George's teddy and they got to keep their own stethoscope!

  • Drop everything and read!

    Wed 01 Mar 2017
Monday morning assembly was a very quiet one this week as everyone in the school read one of their favourite books! Reading is a pastime that both adults and children in Merton Abbey love so this was a great opportunity for them to take time and read together.
