  • International Day

    Tue 23 May 2017

This week, International Day was full of music and dance.  Children travelled around the world learning Bollywood moves, American line dancing, Brazilian capoeira, Samba beats and steel pan drumming, to name a few. The kitchen staff prepared and extra special tasting menu with delicious new foods for children to sample and we all got to taste international foods generously donated by parents at the end of the day.  It was a joyful, energetic day that we were happy to share with children and their families.

  • Scooter Training

    Fri 05 May 2017
Children from years 1 to 3 took part in scooter training which provided them with some valuable road safety lessons. They were told about the importance of looking around them as they scoot and the need to look left, right and left again when crossing roads. One pupil was very pleased that he learnt about the need to walk across the road with his scooter rather than scooting across. Thank you to Keith Filby, our Merton Road Safety officer, who led this important training session.
  • Visit from Dr Ronke

    Thu 04 May 2017
On Thursday 4th of May, Dr Ronke Ikharia, Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine for Homerton Hospital visited Merton Abbey Primary school. The children loved finding out about the training that she had to undertake to become an emergency doctor. Dr. Ronx knew she wanted to be a doctor from the age of twelve and many of our Year 6 children said that they too wanted to become doctors. Dr Ronke shared with the children that she trained for seven years to become a doctor and did many jobs in order to support herself whilst training. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about Dr. Ronke’s journey from childhood to adulthood. She spoke about the range of people that she has helped from mothers in labour to elderly patients in A and E. Dr. Ronx told the children that they are the future and that if you work hard, you can fulfill your dreams. Dr Ronx stated that they are the future and that it does not matter what your background is, if you are determined, hardworking and dedicated,,,the sky is the limit!
